I have not shopped for snow tires in years but now I'm considering it. I have a 1993 240 and was going to put 4 all around....... Any ideas for the best traction in snow and how will they be on dry roads till the spring? Any good recommendations?..

Bridgestone Blizzaks if you can afford them and don't need/can't use studded tires. They are illegal in most states. Not to mention studded tires are a nightmare to drive on if there is no snow.

I ran Blizzaks on all my Volvos and never had an issue, and even put a 20" set on my F150 this winter. No regrets.

They are noisier than regular tires on dry ground, but the compound is plenty grippy even in really low temperatures (where all-seasons and especially high performance tires don't fair too well). They will be fine until the weather warms up, but you'll want to swap them out as soon as you can to save them from wearing down.

You get what you pay for with snow tires, btw.

+1 on the Blizzaks. They are an amazing tire for snow and ice. They are indeed a very soft compound and wear quickly on dry pavement. Get a second set of steel 14's, and enjoy. Take them off at the first sign of decent weather, and you might get three years out of them.

I went with hankook ipikes here in Alaska on my 89 245. studded.
