Easy performance mods 700 1984

Hi everyone,

It's been a while since owning a volvo, not the most popular car here is australia, but I can say now the owner of a 760 turbo with the b23 et. I am fairly certain it has the motronic setup (the one with a crappy air flow meter that has a needle that scratches across a Pcb) can anyone confirm this? Original mitsubishi turbo and block mounted distributor. The car is completely standard setup, what cheap simple mods can i do too get a little more out of it. I was thinking larger injectors, a little more boost, which volvo cam would be best suited. I know there is a wealth of information out there but the number one priority here is budget so little as possible for maximum gain, I'm quite mechanically mind so can do most things myself

Thanks steve

On later cars, bigger injectors will not help you until much further down the road. 84 I am not sure of though. Turning up the boost A Little, is generally considered safe.
Cams are a trade-off. If you have the T cam now, it's good for low end torque and up to 4500-5K, and then it drops off. Other cams will give different results, some with more midrange power, some spinning to 7K, but with an old motor there'd be springs to consider.
Stage 0, open the exhaust, turn up boost 3-5 lbs... of course your trans is in good shape, as well as your brakes and suspension.

Yes I do plan to open up the exhaust, biggest I can go here is 2.5" , is it worthwhile ripping out the motronic and replacing with lh jetronic setup? I think I have a spare K cam lying around somewhere, I wonder if that would be of any use and also a 90+ turbo manifold?
