Okay, I would like to get the Air conditioning working again... I was told that the compresser is not even moving... I was told that a new compresser alone will not solve the problem. Any suggestions?

You could always just move to the midwest and forget that something called "air conditioning" exists. It's supposed to be a balmy -5 next week.

from the way you write your description i suspect you have 3 choices:

1. find a friend with the know how and equipment to upgrade the system to r134

2. take it to an ac shop or good mechanic with the tools to do as in 1.

3. live with it or buy something with working ac

you are looking at a few hundred dollars minimum if you want it to function

If I am correct a 1987 240 used R-12.
R-12 is not produced any longer, the
new stuff is R-134. You would have to
convert your unit to take the R-134, I
need to do this job too, maybe next month.
