Same thing happened to me. I thought I had the skills to repair it but I just broke it worse. I ended up getting a good used one online. Mileage didn't match but, whatever... it works.

You have the beginnings of speedo PCB capacitor rot. Fix this ASAP. See the fAQ file for more details.
