Car drives fine - shifts smoothly in all gears. When parked and moved into either Drive or Neutral it engages HARD.

How many miles has the car traveled?

Does your car do this when hot as well as cold?

When was your last transmission fluid change? Do you follow the schedule specified in your maintenance book?

Have you checked your idle RPM with an accurate tachometer? - other than the one on your dash.

Also check the shifter linkage under the car, and the rod length adjustment, plastic bushings and clips.
