Recurring poor running when hot. However difficult to make it show symptoms even when hot. Been thinking coil, mostly because it is not a Bosch. PO records show it is 2 years old.

I can switch with Bosch from other car, but also have a coil (1220522011) from 92 240. I'm wondering if anyone knows if they are compatible. A search of parts dealers indicates they are not but many of the later 240 electrical parts are the same.

Any advice?

I'm convinced. I'll try the known good from the other 940 and save the 240 version for the 240

they are not the same, by part number. what's different, don't know. will the 240 coil work? yes, but how long. use it until you get the correct coil for the 940. good luck, chuck.

Hope you're well. According to Volvo VADIS - the superseded dealer parts/service database - a coil for a 240 is part #1317810 (superseded by part #9438228). A coil for a 940 is #1346071. I infer from the assignment of different part numbers, that the coils do not interchange, even if they are externally identical.

Because coils generate a high voltage, I'd not risk collateral damage, by installing a coil not specific to the car.

to the best of my knowledge turbo 940's used bosch coils which are more or less the same as 240 coils.

the non turbo regina 940's used a square large coil incompatible with 240's.
