Rattle in tailgate 200 1990

Alright, how do I fix a rattle in the tailgate? It's really when I go over a nasty set of bumps. I've tried to adjust the latches, and it seems solid, but then sure enough, I'll be driving and it'll just rattle enough to be annoying. Am I overlooking something? Am I adjusting it to be too tight? Should I be putting some sort of shock like absorber down? I'm a little confused here, and could use a new approach/advice. Thanks!

Also seems that when I've added weight to the rear for winter, the noise disappears. A sign of poor TAB's?... Also Thanks! I will try those other suggestions when it's not -45 deg outside.

I have an 83 wagon and experience a noisy tailgate. In fact when I go down a bumpy road I can actually see the door vibrating which is causing the noise in my car.

The metal is worn down on the latch holder which is mounted onto the car and not the door. I need to find a part from a junk car and replace the latch hook. In the meantime I have wrapped it in electrical tape to tighten eveverything up, although this is a temproary solution. Hope you can figure out the issue on your car!

remove the fabric inner panel. on the passenger side is where the wiper motor and central locking mounts to the gate on a plate.

    1. the plate has loosened or one or more of the wiper motor bolts has come off and is bouncing around in there

    2. once the panel is off the rest is self evident

You might have to pull the inner panel off and then have someone ride back there, that you do not mind following you. (:)

Make sure he or she can hear and point! If they can not do that, take them over a bigger bump until they do! If you know what I mean!

You have friends or you lose friends, that's life!
