CEL Code 2-4-1 900 1995

My 270K 1995 (8-Valve) is equipped with EGR. My CEL came on a couple days ago and when I read out the codes, I got a 2-4-1 on #6 (ignition). The code indicates an EGR problem.

2-4-1 EGR system flow too low (NTC)
2-4-1 EGR system flow too low (PTC)

I cleared the code, but it came back almost exactly 24 hours later.

I had to loosen the EGR valve/pump to change out my Oil Breather Box, but that's the one and only time I've every "messed" with it.

Any thoughts on the typical cause of this code?

I have noticed the engine has been much "smellier" since I changed the breather box, but all the connections and hoses are tight. Maybe unrelated... maybe not.

I'd start with the easiest thing to check first. Loosen the two 9 or 10mm bolts that attach the egr tube to the top of the manifold and gently bend/cant the tube towards the valve cover. You may find a large carbon "booger" right there clogging the tube. Also check to make sure the vacuum hose that attaches directly to the EGR valve has not simply come loose.
