In tank pump 900 1993

I just purchased a new in tank fuel pump a/c one for my car and i notice that the white pump guts/unit can be turned around in the outer metal housing the metal housing is crimped on both ends but its not tight as it can turn. I haven't put it in yet. does it mean the seal is broken and the pump will be no good. Or is the pump motor separately sealed inside.?

The outer metal shell can move around the pump. Will this let fuel in through the crimped area to the electrical parts of the pump and stop it from working. Do these pumps work with fuel going over the electrical windings. Who has pulled an intake pump apart.

        Hello,

Yes the entire pump (with its electrical connections and inside coil windings) is designed to be submerged in fuel when the tank is full.

Be sure to tighten the electrical connections at the pump itself. Don't want any spark in the tank!

The pump is attached not too rigid (by a metal bracket) to the fuel sending unit. It should be able to move up-down. Later in the tank it would stretch down to reach the tank's bottom.

Also be sure not to leave less than quarter fuel tank empty during normal driving. The pump should stay submerged in fuel at most times. Fuel helps to cool down the pump for long service life.

        Hope this helps.

        Amarin.
