With the Bilstein Touring rear shocks, it is, apparently, the upper shock mount. The inside diameter of the hollow metal bit is slightly larger than the OD of the top mount stud. While you can torque it to 60 ft-lbs, it may still rattle.
There may be movement in the lower rear shock anchor hardware stack.
Maybe apply more torque?
Maybe suspend and support the rear trailing arm to slacken all rear shock stress. Then loosen, realign, and torque rear shock secure hardware stacks to spec?
If not, I'd contact Bilstein.
Amazing how these quality problems persist for after-market 240 parts for perhaps a decade and longer and no one contacts the manufacturer.
Unless the so-called purchased in North America Boge says "Made in Germany", or somewheres Europa, stamped into the steel of the Boge strut cartridge or shock, you have crappy Made in Mexico Sachs. Made in Mexico Sachs brand Advantage is not Made in Germany Boge Turbo Gas.
If you can source Made in Germany Boge in North America, please share on this board.
Made in Mexico Sachs is barely better than KYB.
cheers,
Dud.
