Thanks for the ride

After nearly 25 years of having at least one volvo in the garage. I have given away my S90. I will never own the brand again. The recent years of inadequate quality is my main reason. I accepted the flimsy interiors that actually can be marred by an inadvertent fingernail, but no more. The time I turned the key on a fairly new timing belt, and lost my engine when the belt still broke which resulted in a 5000 dollar repair. And finally, to test drive a new model, only to get the same feel as my old volvos.... no suspension, handling, braking, etc improvements of any significance . Only new shapes. Thanks for the twenty five.

    Thanks for the ride

The only thing is miss is the comfortable driver's seat and the very good climate control. I still have an 850, but that is relegated to local driving.

My 'new' car is an 08 diesel. It hurts to stop at the pump and fill up with 25 gallons at $4.00ea, but the ride is smooth, the engine is super quiet, the seats hurt after 3 hours, and the climate control takes 10-30 minutes to figure out how hot/cold it is inside.

IE, there is no perfect car. The new ones have too many computers, multiple fuse boxes, simplified parts made complex, automagic wipers for the metally retarded, run flat tires for the big spenders that don't know how to add air, and all of the repair parts have to be coded to the car????

Lots of luck. Every once in a while I see a good 60's car in the ads, I wonder if I spent $20,000 on it to fix it up would it be a reliable road machine? Same cost as new, but real steel.

My latest Volvo purchase is a '67 P220. It puts a smile on my face everytime I drive it.

Mary's '04 V70 is having some computer (ABS) troubles at the moment. It is a nice car, but not something you could fall in love with. She is talking Honda or Subaru these days.

      IPD trans servo update kit

      Hi Greg,

How many miles on it? I am planning to visit my Volvo dealer/parts folks, I can ask them.

FYI, Have you look into this update kit?

The V70 has 160,000 on it. I've seen the servo update kit, but the car shifts fine. I wish computer controlled cars had a button on the dash that you could push and they would tell you what is wrong. The cars seem to know something is off, but they just won't say without a visit to the dealer or some cracked code and a bootleg interface...

          Hi Greg,

FYI. You probably knew what they are going to say... It sounds like it's best for you to bring your car in for a check up.

For your tranny, if it turns out to be "just" software upgrade/flash. At Volvoville, they will perform and charge following...

1hr charge for computer diagnostic + $30-$70 for software upgrade + Another 1hr charge for software installation.

          Good luck.

I'm concerned for the future of the brand as well. And now the speculation that they may bring the Chinese built Volvos to the US, I'm really not sure I could spend the money on a new one. It's unfortunate.
