Rusted fuel pump bracket 200 1990

Hi there,
I need to get fuel carriage down to get to bad electrical connections to fuel pump (almost 100% sure that's why car isn't running, can see disconnected wires). The carriage bolts are extremely rusted - any advice on getting it off? It is in a parking lot, so impact tool is out (don't have impact anyways). Heat seems to be out of the question considering fuel lines etc. Any tricks? Damn salt & rust in NE Ohio!
NOTE: I've tried blasting with aero-kroil, but it seems like those bolts go into the body correct? Also If I can get one down I'm pretty sure I can let the carriage hang by the other two bolts and fix the wire???
Thanks

Greetings from Minnesnota, home of the highway salt truck.

The bolts holding the carriage for the main fuel pump have always come out without much of a struggle for me. A six point socket and a 1/2 ratchet usually does the job. Have you seen the 18V cordless impacts ? A friend has one and, while it is no match for a 220 pound guy and a 3 foot breaker bar, it does a surpringly good job.

Can you tow the car to some place that has a little better working conditions ?

Worst case, saw off the end of the carriage, reconnect the wires, and wire it back together until you can get up on a lift and really get at it.

    Greg

      Hey there, thanks for posting!
I managed to get the bolts off to the carriage underneath.. Took a whole lot of kroil and I used some smaller sockets and a hammer to jam them up onto the bolts, kinda sketchy, but it worked! Anyway now I just have to figure out how to re-wire the darn thing... more fun!

you can find the bullet connectors at an auto parts store...
Also get a couple of spark plug wire Boots...like the ones at the end that fits on the distributor cap. Unless you have some hanging around.

attach the Bullet connectors to a new length of wire.

Before you join this new wired section to the main line....

Slip one on each new wire section and then splice that wire into the main wiring
using heat shrink tubes on the "soldered" or just twisted join points... Soldered is better.

Plug the new bullet ends into the fuel pump...push on the boots.

The wire that you have spliced will be of a way smaller guage that the "boot".
Fill that space...around the wire and the "sparkplug boot" with rubber or silicone sealant, after it is firmly attached to the fuel pump.....let it set. This should seal out any winter water incursion.

underneath the back seat drivers side is the other end of the short fuel pump harness. this is where it connects to the harness going forward. you will see a 2 inch rubber plug in the floor with this short fuel harness going through.

push out the plug, disconnect the fuel harness and fix it or re create it on your bench. much easier than under the car.

worst case go to a junk yard and take one off a wreck. it will take 10 minutes to get off and i doubt the yard will charge much for it
