A/T shift Assy 1993 240 200

Vehicle: 1993 Volvo 240 S/W
Need to replace shift assy , NSS, etc.
So - I'm in over my head, just need to decide 'which' part to use and 'how.'
Difficult to decide - should I replace with '93 part/s? Or retrofit (and if retrofit, WHICH year to convert to???) Factoring in - what's going to take the least modification of vehicle.
Will '91 and '92 shifter 'just bolt right in?' Will it fit in the bucket? Wires all line up & connect? Neutral Safety Switch - does it use same switch as '93? Solenoid???
Will I need to order other parts - (and what would they be)? ('93, '91-'92; '82-'90)
Is there anyone reading this who has actually converted their '93 shifter to an earlier one that can share the 'how'?
Shop won't offer an opinion so here I am again, turning to the online pros :)
[Last - I'm inclined to seriously consider used assy - would I need to order more 'associated parts' with used, or would everything be included with new assy?]

The following is what's prompted my post and inquiries:

****Suggestion received: "An earlier good used 240 shift assy will bolt right into your '93. And get a cover for it, as the '93 stuff has more added 'crap' on it (one year only) and has a larger length and width cover.
'91 and '92 shifters have the ignition cable interlock and a release solenoid on them.
'82 - '90 earlier ones don't have an ignition cable interlock or a release solenoid on them - both of which you can live without and both of which can be disabled / removed on yours, or on a '91 or '92 particularly IF that's the current problem with it...

91 and 92s will have the brake pedal solenoid release solenoid in it, so all wiring on them is the same as yours. but they do have a smaller plastic shift cover , which you would need for any shifter other than your 93. . . .

[My current shifter, referring to VADIS diagram 434 62705 - gate (7) is broken; NSS/PNP (29) and solenoid (43) need to be replaced, as well as minor connectors, screws, etc. that also need to be replaced.

I'm going to need to read over your last two threads to make an informed recommendation (because the amount of information is visually overwhelming me at the moment) but I doubt you need to buy anything to make the shifter work again - as a shifter.

If you are planning to do the work to replace the shifter assembly, just hack out the shift-lock solenoid so you never have that problem again. It sounds like the NSS you have needs to be adjusted or cleaned, but that is possible without buying anything new.

The shifter assembly is over-complicated in the late cars. All it really needs to do to work is have a rod connected to the linkage below the car. However, the engineers (and I don't fault them) added safety features like the positive detent locking mechanism to keep the shifter from getting knocked between gears while driving, the solenoid to ensure you have your foot on the brake before shifting out of Park, and the NSS to ensure that the tranny is in Park or before starting the car. None of these things are essential; I have driven with all of them disabled at various times.

I will look at your other post and the diagram to try to understand what problems you're having, but replacing the whole assembly is almost never warranted.
