It should still be possible to clean the headliner if it's just dirty. I had good success on mine using things like a solution of baking soda/water (but careful with drops because it will tend to leave white traces everywhere), magic eraser etc. And your standard clorox wipes too. It takes a while and you'll have smudges until you really clean it all up, but personally I wouldn't want to deal with having to paint a headliner inside a car. Spray paint will get on everything.

If you want to turn it to black, maybe something like Forever Black (dye with applicator) would work. Since the headliner is textured and porous, I don't think it should streak too much.

Ditto scorron & daveshan: it's all in the prep. Clean thoroughly; use a specialized prep product. I

I would use SEM, but Krylon Fusion or VHT will work fine in that location. The headliner neither gets hit by the sun, nor has constant contact with anything, so pretty much any paint would hold up.

However, the headliner of a 244 is strange - they get porous and trap filth, and that filth turns into streaks when you brush up against it. I once spent hours scrubbing the headliner with Simple Green and it came clean. And BTW, you will need to do the same if you want to paint it anyway. If you just try to paint over the film and filth clinging to the headliner, the paint will probably peel off later. That is, you need to clean the headliner very very well, whether you paint it or not.

I did the one in my '88 about 10 years ago with SEM plastic paint. Still looks great. Prep' is key, I used their "Plastic Prep" to prepare the headliner after doing a thorough cleaning. Multiple thin coats and it laid down a nice even color, I chose black.
