electric windows in a 144 140-160

Hi all,

We've built a 144 up as a rally car and the location of the rollcage makes undoing the navigator's window at control points (well, anywhere really) impossible. Does anybody know if electric windows were ever an option in a 144? It's a 1974, so maybe 240 ones would fit? Any ideas?

Regards

With some minor work on the door latch that bolts the the car's pillar, I think you can just swap over the whole 240 doors. Might be easier than finding 164 doors, or trying to convert the manual winders to electric.

So... it's against the rules to open the door???

Not really, but it does usually let a big cloud of dust in!

The main time it would be handy to be able to have an open window rather than close the door is at the start of a stage. I like to hear the count down and I'm not overly keen on having the door closed just after we take off - just in case anything goes wrong like the door not being closed properly.

'75 164 had power windows up front (at least stateside). But, being a '74, I expect you could incorporate the system from a 240... even replace the doors.

as matt b wrote--the last of the 164 models had (option?) power windows for the front doors. I can't recall ever seeing a 140 with them but it should be doable. Early 240 cars could come with P/W -- also only in front -- with the switches mounted in the center console tower. My 1980 244 Diesel parts car has that system. -- Dave
