A question for 240 DL owners 200 1990

Hi,

I am curious if anyone knows the answer to this question. Does anyone know why some 240 DL
Volvos have a roof rack on top and some do not.
Of the few that I have seen in my neck of the woods - some of them do and some of them don't. Mine
does not.

Here is a pic of mine:

Thanks

It's a way to add $$$ to the price of the car with an optional roof rack.
I used some plastic hole plugs to fill the holes after removing mine.
It made the car a whole lot quieter at speed, less wind noise.
Then when I had the car repainted I had the permanently fill in the holes.
I agree, why did they drill hoes in the roof when they could have used the drip rails.

I have read that Volvo never put a roof rack on the car from the factory; it was a dealer installed option.

Personally, I think it is never a smart idea to drill holes in the roof of your car. There are roof racks made specifically to clamp to the drip rails/rain gutters that are just as secure and hold just as much weight. Make sure you have no leaks. Those rubber wellnuts that the dealers used always leak after a while.
