Has anyone noticed this 122s that has reached 36K dollars? Im happy to see the value spike but wonder why the value is there. The car has modifications and a repaint so it is far from the original package. makes me wonder about the true value of my own car.
Check out the listing here;

Bogus bidding? Perhaps.

But all it takes is two well-to-do folks who's first car was a pea-green 122s 2 door with dark green interior..

Looks like the final bid was 36,100. Im glad and hope the deal goes through, that's a victory as far as I am concerned for the better pricing of these cars in great shape.

At this price I would expect it to be a 100% Concours matching number car. But this is not the case, with the aftermarket carb set-up, emergency flasher switch, non-stock OD switch, broken parking brake ring. I wonder if the final bid was legit ?

Agreed - I'm surprised (but perfectly happy) to see something this far from original command dollars like that.

None of the old Volvos had matching numbers.

Hope the bids were legit. I'd like to see these old cars increase in value.

Best,

The thing I noted about the buyer again was that he/she has a 100% track record with purchases/sales exceeding 550. To me that seemed as legit as could be.
We see Camaro's and Mustangs trading all day long at prices that are ridiculous when considering none of these cars are perfect or even close to original. Even Fiats, Austin Healey's, Datsun's etc. are trading at big dollar values compared to what the car is.
Volvo's should certainly be trading for better dollars considering they are built like little tanks and of quality materials.
has anyone seen that wagon that competes with the Ferrari? Check it out;

Historically, Volvos are at or near the bottom of the collector car market, which is why I am here, and like them as much as I do. A 67 Ferrari NART Spyder it isn't, and never will be...

I agree that this car is over the top pricewise but it's one of the most pristine 122 examples I've seen in a long time. Yes, it's been modified, B20, OD and all that but I think those mods serve to enhance the car and really don't detract from it in any way. I could criticize the carb choice but that's only because I think the original SU setup is superior to the DGV in many ways. A very nice car but terribly overpriced.

36+K? Something's fishy here. I'll be shocked if that auto actually trades hands for that amount of money.

Lets hope it does sell, it would help to set the bar for the value of so many others.
My experience with my car as many other different cars I've owned is this car gets attention. So much so that at times it steals it away from other makes. Here on LI we have a few car dealers who deal directly to the classic public. GTO's, Ferrari's, Bentley's and others but when I drive up in my 122, people want to know about my car. Most people are astounded at the fact that it is a Volvo. Then they want all the details. If this car sells for that price my car is a quick candidate for that number as well.

I have been watching that one as well.. It does look pretty nice..Regarding the B20,,I bought a 1966 in 1976 here in Canada.. I am pretty sure that it had a B20 engine as it had the B20 emblem on the grill.. It was already a rust bucket so I doubt very much if the previous owner changed the engine and added the emblem... Is it possible that some Canadian cars had the B20 instead of the B18 ??

Nope. '69 models got the B20. It didn't exist before then.

Does anyone know what that 122 sold for,, I was gone all day and the last bid I saw was 36,100... I am sure my old 1966 122s had an emblem on the grill that said B20.. Maybe someone put that emblem on.. I only had the car for a few months ,then gave it to my brother.. He plowed into the back of a pick up truck after someone rear ended him.. He said there was a cloud of red dust and the was the end of that 122s..

It got relisted due to "the high bidder not following through."

No surprise there. Now it's listed at a more realistic price and it'll be very interesting to see where it goes from here.

Methinks there's something very screwy going on here. Even if the car were a perfect example, I would have trouble believing the bidding, and we know it's a long, long way from perfect... wrong engine, wrong transmission, wrong intake system, wrong tires, etc., etc.

I'm throwing the BS flag. :)

Gary, I agree with your thinking however, the top bidder at this point has a great track record and a perfect rating. That being said I also noted the final bidder from yesterday was booted for being bogus.
This car is pretty enough and my own opinion of these cars is that they should bring good money like this, they have all the right quality's to do so.
A fiat Jolly that cant get out of its own way and weighs a 1/4 what these cars do bring triple the value? Even those ugly BMW Isetta's bring 60K sometimes. Ill keep my 122. Thanks G. Bone
