heater fan and engine fan come on same time 900

1992 960 sedan. As it was a little cooler this morning I turned my heater blower fan on after starting the engine. Right away I hear a little up tick in the rpms and then the cooling fan came on. Thought it was odd so I turned blower fan off and on a few times, same thing kept happening. I can't imagine this is correct, the engine had only been running a minute and it was cool outside. I have only owned this vehicle about 8 months so I am not familiar with cool starts. Also the A/C is disconnected because it doesn't work. Would appreciate any insights.

    Well I am sorry to have taken up space for my request. I discovered the problem. I disconnected the A/C pump on my other 960 (wagon) and did not on this one. Neither A/C works. Someone had engaged the ac button on the dash so that when I called for defrost ac engaged. Evidently the engine cooling fan comes on automatically when the ac is engaged. thank you

    Hm. If the AC is set to max, the aux fan or high-speed fan mode might be set to turn on - regardless of if the AC is actually functioning.
