VIN Decoders? 700

What is the deal with the various Volvo VIN decoders online? I have run mine on four of them and all describe a different car.

The problem seems to be in identifying the block type. One says B230F, one B230E and one B23. I have always treated mine as a B230F. The B230E response was a surprise to me, and the B23 is just wrong.

I have a 1990 740 base model (NA) with a red-something-or-other under my hood.

Also, how can I determine AW 70, 71 or 72? I know I have the Dana with the LSD. But how do I narrow down the three possible trannys?

Here is my VIN (minus the chassis number): YV1FA8846L2XXXXXX

Thanks!

Tranny ID tag is on the left.

Your 1990 NA would probably have the Bendix-Siemens "Regina" FI introduced in '89. But a Dana LS seems odd for that car. How did that happen?

Best method for tranny. Crawl under the car for the label.
