Headlight loose on 142 140-160

Hello:

One of my headlights is just dangling in its "socket". Before I go digging, does anybody have an illustration of what holds the headlights in place?

Obviously for this poster the plastic pieces are what he has. Earlier 140 cars have a metal ring with three "legs" that end with a "foot". Each "foot" fits over a stud on the headlight bucket and nuts then secure the headlight. -- Dave

Don't have a photo, but there are three plastic clips that hold the headlight into the housing. The clips mate to projections on the rear of the headlight unit and three corresponding holes in the headlight housing. They are accessed from the engine side of the light and snugged up / loosened with a phillips screwdriver.

I think the clips are still available new (recommended) but there are used ones around. The problem with the used ones is that they are mostly dried out, quite brittle and easy to break.

The plastic clips were available new from Eric on this forum a year or so a go and I would guess he still carries them. Google Hi Performance Auto in Torrance, CA for him.

I'm not connected to his business but he has been very helpful to me: hence the referral.
