Looking to Buy... for my '58 444 444-544

Hello everyone,

Today I'm in the market for:

1. Period-correct AM antenna (to use with Motorola Volumatic 10M)
2. Period-correct or NOS side mirrors
3. The "hat shelf" covering - black or gray preferred
4. Period-correct or NOS rear backup light

If anyone happens to know where I may be able to find any of these odds-and-ends, I would greatly appreciate the knowledge. I'll also keep an eye out on ebay.

In the meantime, here are the latest pics with new "V" emblem and front Yankee bar installed:

I bought the hat shelf covering from VPAutoparts. I think it is just like the original.

It has been a few years but they still list it - #96748.

I made a hat shelf from masonite and covered with vinyl material. Once it's covered, you don't know if it's cardboard or masonite underneath. If you are looking for all original, though, this wouldn't be it.

I have been told that 60's VW backup lights are very similar if not identical to the ones volvo used.

I have a '60s era VW backup light on my 444 and it looks like it belongs there. Finding a bracket (or making one) is up to you. I used a chrome motorcycle handlebar bracket to mount it to the bumper upright on the driver's side. Ran a switch to my under-dash gauge cluster, manual operation only.

When you say the "hat shelf covering", do you mean the cardboardy material or the actual fabric (which would totally depend on the interior you have).

I have the cardboard hat shelf material form an old 544 supply cache I picked up, it looks to be in decent shape.
