Fitting fiberglass nose cone and front latch 120-130 1968

Hello All,

I have fitted a fiberglass nose cone to replace two badly damaged steel nose cones. I am having trouble getting the lid to shut flush like it used to.
the front latch catches, but the hood pops up. Is there a trick to getting it down right? Is this an issues with the fiberglass pieces?

Thanks!

Did you try adjusting the latch? Maybe you need to extend the "pin" portion.
It is easy to do. On the hood portion of the latch, just loosen the locknut at the base of the pin and unscrew the pin a few turns and retighten the locknut.

Hello,

Thanks for the reply!

What is the "pin" you speak of?

Thanks again,

The pin is on the underside of the hood or lid, and fits into the latch on the nose. It has a cone shape on the end of the bolt.

Hello All,

Well I took of the latch, and the nuts on either side would not budge!
I tried pd blaster... and it fail to lose the fitting.
It seems like it needs to go lower a couple of turns... maybe some heat will do the trick.
Try again tomorrow.

Cheers

To lower the pin you don't have to remove the complete latch. Undo the locknut inside the spring and screw out the pin using the slot for a screwdriver. You'll need a few attempts to get the fit you want, not tight or sloppy. Make sure the sliding plates in the front panel part are well greased and the hidden lever worked by the cable isn't partially or completely seized, that's important. It's the lower part that does the work and holds the pin.

Also should mention that there is supposed to be a gap, maybe 1/8" - 3/16" between the lower lip of the hood and the upper part of the nose section.

There should be rubber bumpers/stops located on either side of the hood under the lip.

Chronic issue with all fiberglass aftermarket parts. You may have to shim, shave and cajole the stuff into place to get it to fit correctly.
