Reputable Restoration Shops around Houston or Texas 200 1986

my 86 wagon has advanced rust below the tailgate, and i have the sheet metal parts to repair it, but i'm looking for a good shop to do it as close to factory as possible.

any recommendations around this region? i don't want just any body shop that might use fillers.

thanks,

As the others mentioned, after welding in a new panel, you have to cover the weld lines somehow, and body filler is that "somehow." I'd try to find a mom-and-pop type of shop that doesn't just focus on big-money stuff with colisions for insurance companies. Keep in mind--this won't be cheap. It takes significant time and effort to get things looking nice again.

    Nate

Be advised even after welding in new sheet metal a skim coat of filler will be needed.

      hi nelson,
ok, another piece of learning for experience. it'll be well hidden, anyway.

      thanks,

Yes, don't be afraid of fillers. There is a HUGE difference between patching rust holes with Bondo, and using higher quality fillers to fill small voids and irregularities in a properly repaired panel. I am not the kind to watch all the car shows now on TV, but I bet if you did, you would see hundred thousand dollar hotrods have filler EVERYWHERE so that perfectly smooth, straight lines can be sculpted.

        hello sean,
ok, i didn't know how the body work went on using sheet metal. yes, it's intuitive that filler is needed after sheet metal work. it will be hidden anyway.

i found a shop locally that looks like they do very good work. i'll write something up later in a month or so.

        thanks,
