A couple things, steering, funny noise 120-130

Ok I have got a couple questions.

Do I need a steering wheel puller to remove the steering? My indicator stock moves around and my right turn signal won't engage.

Second, when I give it full power, pedal to the floor there is some sort of noise, a rattle or almost sounds like bacon frying in a pan, don't hear it any other time I give it gas.
Thoughts
Thanks

Tom

Sometimes you need a puller to remove the steering wheel but if it's been off and on several times, such as on my car, it comes off fairly easily. I'd have a puller on hand just in case.
The noise you describe sounds like a rattling piston because of a loose fitting piston pin. It might also be spark knock (pinging) due to incorrect ignition timing.

Ok I will give the steering wheel a try

Wouldn't the noise of the increase with the rpm's, rather then how much I press on the gas pedal? Just wondering
I will check the ignition timing
Thanks for the ideas!

When you're trying to tug the wheel off, leave the retainer nut on a couple of threads. It doesn't do your nose any good when the wheel smacks you in the face!

Bacon frying sounds like pinging. Timing too advanced which can be the weights in the distributor sticking, especially if the tick over is poor. Engine can often sound a bit laboured when starting. Check timing. Quick check, loosen dizzy clamp and rotate the body a fraction anti clockwise. 1º of turn equals 2º of timing. Do a test drive to see if it's any better. Take your spanner with you so you can adjust it more if needed. These engines like premium fuel and a tank of that might also make the pinging go away.
Depending on results, service/lube your distributor and check/adjust timing using a light.

Good thinking about the nut, my nose with appreciate it.

I will check the timing, and take it for a drive. It drives fine other wise, I just can't floor it.

Thanks again derek

Push yourself up and back in the seat so your arms are nearly straight. Then, with hands at 8 and 4 (gripping at the radius arms) pull hard one then the other to flex it off. Usually works. Good idea with the nut though. Hurts when it flies off.
