Main Fuel Line Disconnect 240 200

I would like to disconnect the main fuel line going to the fuel rail to check for fuel flow, but the connection is very difficult to break and I did not want to damage the small metal line that the main fuel line connects to. Any ideas on how to safely remove that line or is there another line that I can check for fuel flow to the rail. Car will start briefly fo maybe 1/2 second when I spray throttle body cleaner in the throttle. Thanks for your help.

Main Fuel Line Disconnect 240 200

Hey everybody, thanks for your response to this post as well as to others regarding my no start situation. On the way to this solution, I changed out several things with boneyard picks. This included an AMM which really was tthe initial problem. Also replced the power stage, fuel relay, ignition starter and the ECU from a pink label to a white label.

This last problem regarding fuel flow was due to my carelessness in that the harness was not pushed in to the ECU far enough to hear that little "click " sound indicating that it was securely in place.

One final post on this item and hopefully not to dumb. Should the fuel pump always be making that pumping, whirrrring sound while the car is running?

Thanks again!!

Hello,

Don’t disconnect anything. Just pinch the return line and feel the pressure build.

I looked at one of your other posts on this message board to determine you are probably asking about a 1991 fuel system.

To answer your question:

Use 14 and 17 mm line wrenches opposed. Do not allow torque to the rail fitting.

To suggest an easier method to determine fuel pressure:

Power up pumps without running car by using a jumper between fuse 4 and 6.

Check fuel pressure regulator for diaphragm leak on a cool engine with the keys in your pocket.

Feel the pulsation of fuel in the return line, indicating fuel is reaching regulated pressure and returning excess to tank. Give it a squeeze to verify the pump can indeed deliver more pressure.
