544: Can I mount fog lamps without damaging the chrome or body? 444-544

I have a Euro-styled chrome front bumper (no top holes on the bumperettes or overrider) and I'm considering adding a set of fog lamps to my car. I've never actually seen how they mount to the car. Do they require drilling into the chrome? Can I safely add the lamps to the bumper without damaging the chrome's surface? Do they all attache to the bumper or do some attache to the inner grill?

Thanks!

You have two perfectly good (and stout!) bumper mounting brackets that can be used for the purpose you reference. Further, wiring can be run through the same hole as the "grommet" is in.

I would use those mounting points as well, if I had the Euro bumpers. You just may need to get creative with the mounting brackets (ie: the supplied ones won't work for this). You may even want to look at motorcycle or hot rod shops, as they may sell chrome-plated brackets to suit your needs.

I'm lucky enough to have the "yankee bars", and it will probably use motorcycle handlebar brackets to mount my fog lights, when the time comes.

I was able to mount driving lights on an MGB by using generic seat belt angle brackets and the bolts holding the bumper to the bumper brackets. Don't currently have a 544 to look at but I would guess there's plenty of room to do something similar.

There are above bumper light and badge bars made for various English sports cars but it would be dumb luck if the bumper mounting spacing was close enough. But, something like that could be fabricated and chrome plated.

There're also some grille-mount fogs out there but not all grilles could handle that without additional support. (I happen to like the old school look of a single light mounted on one side of the grille) With big enough backing plates to support the load, that could work.
