... the 242 Convertible which I originally helped build back in 1989!

My good friend at a local Volvo shop here in CT decided he had too many projects and wanted to see this back on the road. I'll be going through it after 5+ years of storage.

We drove this car to Daytona Beach back when we were just young kids. Quite a trip, driving straight through from CT and then getting sunburned all day.

It's based on a '76 242DL. There's a lot of work that went into it, including a Chrysler LEBaron power top. Also has a later Turbo style nose with Euro headlights.

The thing it needs right now is a K-Jet fuel pump... If anyone's got a good one, I'd be happy to buy it or trade for later 240/740/940 stuff.

Another pic of it here:

Thanks in advance...

Rob,

You need to keep that one in a garage! Nicely done. Except for the spoiler...

Actually, since that picture was taken, the spoiler was removed and the holes filled with nice black plastic plugs. I could take it or leave it... I have the spoiler but it is cleaner without it.

I also have some rust spots starting in the top rear of each rear quarter to deal with. Not pretty, going to try to concentrate on other (mechanical) things and pretend that isn't there for a while.

There are just about zero parts cars for early (pre-79) 242's in New England so any replacement sheet metal or other parts... good luck.

Maybe you can bring it to Carlisle next year.

Rob,

Nice to see you have the '242 Convert' in your stable. Can't think of a better Steward for this car.

Enjoy.

Thanks Al.

Since I had a hand in making it, my friend offered it to me. Now I feel responsible to get it back on the road. I will- a few issues to take care of, probably some new brake rotors due to long time sitting, and it needs a real good cleaning.

The top works perfectly but I have some stitches which need to be repaired. I am going to ask at an uphol$stery $hop and at a fabric store for ideas. I don't think it needs to be replaced or anything but absolutely must be addressed.

I have a car cover for it now, and a garage for the winter if I shift stuff around. Structurally the car is very solid but if neglected it would get eaten by the tin worm quickly I think.

Hmm, now to find out if Hagerty will cover it...
