Clip-on external mirrors for 1963 544 444-544

I'd like to attach clip-on external left and right side mirrors for my 1963 544 so that I can avoid drilling holes into the paint. Does anyone have any suggestions as to the part number of these vintage mirrors? I've seen some attach via the weather channel.

I really don't mind if they're not Volvo, either, but it would be nice if they were semi-period.

I purchased a pair of clamp-on 4" peep mirrors from a guy on ebay. I can't remember his name, but there are several sellers of these there. This set came with one regular(driver) and one convex (passenger) mirror. The price was very reasonable and they were of good quality.

For what it is worth, I have used mirrors on a curved arm, and with a straight arm. The curved arm will give you a large adjustment range; where as the straight arm is extremely limiting. When I replace mine again they will be with a curved arm!

    VP Autoparts offers this one:

I used them for most of the parts for my 444 years ago and was happy with how they did.

But I never go around adding the mirror.

I had such mirrors on my first Volvo--a 1965 544 -- but that was 1974. They clamped onto the door window frame. Maybe a catalog like JCWhitney would have something like that---check Hemmings Motort News for ads too. I remember my 1949 Chevy pickup had them too. -- Dave

I bought one from JC Whitney for my 142 but the clamp wasn't deep enough to securely attach to anything. The body panels also seemed thicker than the clamp could accommodate.

I've thought of getting a stock mirror from a junked 140 but attaching powerful magnets in the base. I also don't want to drill holes anywhere. An old computer hard drive has two very strong magnets in it. I might try this someday when I get time.

Check these guys out. I have their "old style door edge" mirrors.

They won't break the bank, but I'm not sure of the longevity yet, as I just got them this spring.

      Dakar09, did you mean these?

Where did you attach them to your 544? I'm having a hard time visualizing this when I open the doors.

      THanks!

I have a very similar set (forgot where I sourced them)on my '67 Duett. I think they look great and work well. Not sure where you'll mount them - if on the roof channel then you won't be able to open the door! I mounted mine onto the wing window, being careful not to break the glass.

    Hi,
Look up Speedway Motors, they are primarily hot rod oriented but have a lot of stuff like this. Also good old J.C.Whitney.
