240 Wagon Visor Clips 200

I was really frustrated at the repeated crumbling of the visor clips in my '93 wagon. I have replaced them 4 times over the last 18 years. The first set of replacements lasted a long time. The second set lasted a while, but not as long. The 3rd set held up for only a few months before practically disintegrating.

So, I tried a set of black Porsche part # 944 731 439 00 instead of the white Volvo disappointments. They are a perfect fit.

So far, it's been about two years and they are still like brand new (strong and slightly flexible).
The black color doesn't bother me at all as they flank the black rear view mirror mount. They might even look better to some.
Anyway, I think they are an improvement and worth the extra cost, about $10 per pair.

Hope this helps someone else.

whittled the clips for a gentle fit 200

I had similar issues with the clips in our '89 wagon. On the advice of a friend I finally took a single edge razor blade and VERY carefully shaved the opening of the clips a bit at a time. When I got close I used an emery file and now they fit perfect. Of course I hand fit them to the visor as i whittled the opening.

Been about 5 years so far, so far so good.. I think you could also use a Dremel tool with a sander fitting on it. When I "snap" in the visors now to the clips it's a gentle fit and they have never come loose until I want to pull the visor open.

If you try this, i reiterate, be VERY VERY careful with the razor blade.

    My other car is a 1969 911S.

Not THAT's a study in opposites.

The 240 wagon is Dr. Jeckyl.

Mr. Hyde is all the more fun after schlepping around in the 240.

'Love having TWO vehicles that are worth MORE every DAY!

ANSWER I'll do you one better than the Porsche part 200

As the owner of an 89 Porsche 944T, I can tell you those clips will break as well. They will probably last a bit longer than the Volvo parts, but I've had to replace a pair on the Porsche as well. VW makes a part that is nicer, and bolts right into the 944, so it should bolt right into a 245 as well. It's got a spring loaded bit, so I think it will fatigue the plastic less, plus there's an additional little cover that will clip on to hide the screws, if you care about that sort of thing.

Here are a couple of pics of the VW clip & cover, next to one good and one broken 944 clip:

And of course the part numbers, if you want to go out to the VW dealership to buy a set for yourself:
    3B0 857 561 BY20 . . . Pearl grey
    3B0 857 561 BB41 . . . Black
    3B0 857 561 B8YS . . . Light Beige

    For the clip-on dress cover:
    3B0 857 563 BY20 . . . Pearl grey
    3B0 857 563 BB41 . . . Black
    3B0 857 563 B8YS . . . Light beige

This post has been marked as an answer to the original question.

944 Turbo?... Yes, please.. I've always been a Porsche fan. 911, 928S or 944T would be among my dream "starter" Porsches.. I'd never give up my 245 but for a nice weekend garaged ride?... Yup!
