Wanted: '91 740 fuel pump(s) & green electrical manual. 700 1991

Wife's car has been starting worse & worse. So I started with the cheaper parts and moving up, throwing parts at the problem.

Parts replaced so far are spark plugs, dist. cap & rotor(Bosch), fuel filter (Wix), fuel pump relay. And used junk yard parts are main & fuel pump relays next to battery, crank sensor, power stage, 4 different pump relays that I re soldered and probably a couple more forgotten parts. I went with new since they're maintenance items anyway and it's time. Picked up this nice wagon with a mere 120K and coming up on 160K. The problem got so bad she's driving my 960 now and I want it back, she uses the back & the floors for junk that should be removed. Or she'd have my 960 if it wasn't used for storage.

If anyone's got a new fuel pump (or pumps) they never used sitting on the shelf I'll take it or them. And I do need 2 green manuals. #1 for a '91 740 and #2 for my '96 960. I have a '92 960 manual that helps, but there are some differences.

Thanks Dave

I'm usually not at a loss in troubleshooting my bricks. Have owned quite a few since '96. It is a Bosch setup ignition. I've ordered a few more parts, in tank pump, plug wires, & crank sensor. I see these as maintenance parts and original from '91. Plug wires in good shape and ohm out fine, just doing it. Listening to the in tank pump led me to ordering it. Isn't running smooth. It's not the most fun job to replace, but its job is to keep the main fed. Going to find a way to install a permanent fuel pressure port. Once car does start it feels good, but it's taking at least 4 attempts to start now.

    Still need green manuals.

Got in tank pump replaced. Starts better now, but will be replacing main pump since a little noisy. The sock in the tank was black and could not blow through it. Like the sock had almost solidified. I'm thinking this caused the pump to work way too hard and helped to finish it off. This surely affected the main. Hooked new pump up to battery charger for just a second and it buzzed up, old pump did not.

On to next issue. My 960 started running rough this week. It's the common intake manifold gasket failure.

You did all that and didnt replace the wires? I have a 91 745 Regina. Is yours Regina or Bosch Ignition? The Regina uses Bosch caps and rotors. Something to look at thats often forgotton is the Fuel Pressure Reg. I did a test a couple years ago and it may now be in the FAQ about these and compatability with the Bosch FPR's and found ( if i remember correctly ) the Bosch FPR that says 3.0 Bar on it will work in the Regina car, In fact mine is running a Bosch FPR and not the one called for in the Regina Ignition.

Have you ever checked the codes?
Throwing parts at it can be educational, but taking cooking and photography classes when you really want to learn physics may not be the most effective approach.
