Strengthening window stops inside doors 120-130 1966

Greetings all.

Problem that keeps happening in my 130: A passenger jumps into the car, and rolls the window down, using super strength, and will wind the window down PAST the stop inside the door. This knocks the window chain off the tensioner, and I have to dig into the door panel to fix it and reset the window stop. Obviously when this happens the window stops working.

Is there some way I can make the stopper at the bottom of the door stronger? This has happened 4 times in the past month and I'm really growing tired of it. I've tried my best to explain to passengers the delicate nature of the car, but we all know how many non-antique volvo folks can be. They are wonderful people, they just don't know any better.

I'd love to hear any ideas.

Thanks as always!

Volvo issued a TSB(Technical Service Bulletin) for this. It required the installation of a small support bracket.

I will try to find the TSB and post it.

That would be lovely.

Do you happen to have any brackets, or know where I might find one?

I found the TSB, but it is hard to see the bracket in the picture. The TSB has the Volvo part number for the bracket, but nobody has them.

The bracket is not hard to duplicate if you have some thick sheet metal, a sheet metal hand shear and a drill.

Eric, like everyone else I can't quite figure out the bracket from the picture in the TSB. You say it's not hard to duplicate, but it's way harder if you have no idea what you're trying to make. Do you have one that you could post a picture of? Or describe it from memory if not?

Many thanks,

It seems clear from the picture and a little thought that the bracket resembles an upsidedown park bench (or a staple), the length of the "seat" equal to the distance from the pulley to the inner wall of the inner door panel, and the "legs" large enough to put a ~1/4" hole for a pair of screws...

Couldn't be simpler, no?

could be slightly simpler with an illustration or two. Evne a bad picture is worth 500 words

Eric, could you post a copy and TSB number for this please. Picture maybe poor but it should give us some idea of what it's like and where it fits. Thanks.

I couldn't find any reference to this TSB on Karl-Erik's Amazon pictures site. I supplied him with many of them from my ex-dealer folder of workshop and Technical bulletins and AFAIK I don't have it.

Are the windows loose in the channels? I had the window go past the stop on my old '65 P130. I replaced the window channels, never had the problem again.

I have a couple of P130 doors that are going to the scrappers. Not sure what the TSB brackets look like, but happy to cut the brackets off these doors if that can help to beef up your doors.

Paul

Could you rivet something in place that would act as a stop?
