Power Window Problem 1989 245 200 1989

My power windows cannot be operated from the driver's window control switches at all. Oddly, the front passenger window can be operated from its particular door switch, but no other windows can open from their respective switches.

I've changed the fuses, the relay behind the radio panel, and have put in a new central switch panel on the driver's door, but the problem remains.

Ideas?

Thanks!

If you do decide to take your switches apart, read the 700𖻌 FAQ it is worth your time.

So what your sayin' in that the only window that opens
is the front passenger window?
It sounds like your switches are full of crap.
You need to remove each switch holder then carefully
open up each switch (watch out for jumping parts) and
clean then up inside. Inside each switch you will
find two small metal see-saw looking pieces of metal.
After cleaning them up I usually flip each one around
so that the 'fresh' side in now being used as the
contact point. Watch out for the two springs and two
metal balls in each switch and don't loose them.
After the clean up put 'em back together carefully.
I would start with the master switch (4). Pay attention
to the orientation of each switch in its holder. When
you do the master switch, do one switch at a time, then
put it back in the holder so that the wiring does not
get swapped with the wrong window.

Good luck,
Joseph in NM

Just to add a note to NM240's suggestions---the contacts in the body of the switches can develop a thick crust--I scrape them with a sharp screwdriver blade. ----As for the orientation of the switch parts into the switch body and top--if you look at the slots in the "body" you'll see the pieces go together just one way. Take the first one apart slowly and examine all the parts. -- Dave

the rubber boot between the door and the frame on the drivers door can sometimes harbor crack and broken wires to the window switch. peel it back and have a look
