CAM rack steering shudder 200 1990

Hello I just finished installing a re-manufactured cam rack on my 240. I flushed the system well before removing the old rack, followed the FAQ bleeding procedure after installation: turn lock to lock with engine off, then with engine cranking etc, etc...

I'm still getting shuddering when turning at low speed so I think I still have air trapped. Any other suggestions? Ball joints and tie rod ends are less than 1 year old.

thanks,

I had to roll my 245 off the ramps to get to my garage in the middle of installing a new fuel pump. I had to turn the wheel manually obviously and after getting pump installed found mine shuddered as well. After 2 days of running it the shudder disappeared as suddenly as it appeared.

    Hey all:

this problem of steering shudder after rack replacement resolved on its own after a week or two of driving. All is well now. Don't despair if it happens to you.

Usually lock to lock several times with the engine running does it for me.

thanks guys, this kind of thing just nags at me until its resolved. lock to lock with wheels up, wheels down, while idling, while driving?? Is there a preferred method? What about installing a fitting to the reservoir cap and drawing a vacuum?

Also any tips for doing a DIY toe-in adjustment?>

In my experience, it will work its way out all by itself. I have developed some nasty shudder in the past from turning the wheels by hand with the car up on jack stands - I guess that traps air for some reason. In every case, driving around for a couple days has been the cure. Hopefully it works out the same way for you.

    Good luck,
    Sean
