Hi all,

I tried searching on fitting four 4x6 e-codes for the '90 740, but no luck--everything seemed to address updating the 90 car to the Volvo Euro-style e-code . . . so I guess I have to ask the question out-right: Is it possible to go from the 2 plastic USA-spec lights on the 1990 car back to the 4-lamp set-up on the 1989 and older 740s?

My goal would be to run a set of four e-code 4x6 lights (I have a set of NOS marchals under the work-bench), instead of the current yellowed plastic units.

I checked out an 89 740 at the pick 'n pull today--looks like I would need at least the headlight mounting hardware and wiring, the turn signals, the plastic frames, and the clear plastic trim that goes under the units. What about the grill? Anything else? (please don't say fenders and hood--not going there)

I'm just getting familiar with the 7-series cars. Bought a neighbor's 1990, about 90K miles, garage kept, and an m47 5-speed. He was going to trade it, but they only offered him about 1K so I bought it.

The euro lights on our old 240s spoiled me (4 marchals on the 83, volvo OEM on the 91)--so I'm going to have to look for a decent replacement/solution for the new car.

You can clean up the ones you have, I've done at least 40, and they can be pretty good. Or you can buy some good used ones, I've sold several to members here and elsewhere. Some I've had are like new.
Or, there is for sale right now on TB, some Ecode glass ones that fit your car without mods, except maybe for the turns. I think they're in the $300 range though.

Thanks--I'll start by cleaning this up as you suggested. After that we'll see . . . may a trip to strandbergs while home in MN next month (time for the annual pilgrimage)
