745 vs. 945? 900

I'm currently the owner of a 91 740 non-turbo wagon that's approaching 200K miles. But I may have the chance to buy a 93 940 wagon with six cylinder turbo engine. What's the buzz amongst the knowledgeable Volvo enthusiasts? My inclination is to stay with the red block 4 engine, but the 940 is in mint condition with just 140K miles. Does the 6 have a significant decrease in gas mileage? Thanks in advance for your feedback on this question, and please let me know if there are any specific issues that I should look for with the 940.

    745 vs. 945? 900

    It is a 940 Turbo red-block 4 cylinder or a 960 NA (not turbo) I6 "white-block" motor.

If you are in the US, the former will be a B230FT and be mechanically almost identical to your current except for being a turbo. Great combination and loses 3-4 MPG over the non-turbo (17 city, 24/25 hwy...most think the power is worth the slightly more complex motor and the reduced gas mileage.

If it is a 960, your gas mileage will likely be similar highway but lower in the city than the 940 turbo but the maint regiment is very rigid...break a timing belt, lunch the motor. Tranny also seems to be more problematic that the AW71 from the 940 turbo.
