Stromberg non-adjustable conversion to adjustable 140-160 1969

My 164 (69) has the non-adjustable Strombergs on it and I am planning to convert them to the later adjustable type. Has anyone tried that? I heard it's possible but may be expensive. I think swapping for two other Stroms would be even more expensive. (?)

AFAIK, there is no such thing as a non adjustable Stromberg carburetor and in fact the plug on the bottom of the float bowl is there so the tool to adjust the jet tube assembly can be installed.

So you do need some special tools to properly adjust the fuel mixture on Strombergs and not just the needle adjusting tool. As I mentioned, there is a special tool for moving the jet tube assembly up and down.

See if you can find a shop that specializes in old British cars and ask if they have the special tools and if they are willing to work on your Volvo.

We do have the special tools, but I don't think you want to drive to California to come to our shop.

I learned I have the wrong needles for a 164. They are B1AM, used in the twin-Stromberg 140. So I ordered a set of correct 164 needles from Rhys. If that doesn't fix my problem I'll look into the conversion kit.
I'll post the results.
Thanks for the info all.

What's the symptoms? The B30A is a bit on the lean side everywhere, just adjust the needles up higher in to the piston. The adjustable jet is not a bed of roses either, having a tendency to leak. Best bet is SU's or D-Jet.
