Hesitation going after coming to a stop 700 1991

Starts and runs (takes 2 cranks when cold in the morning - my son was told the fuel pump was going - has been doing that for months.) The last few days, when accelerating from rest has been hesitating. Actually started very subtly about a week ago. Once I get above 25-30 mph seems to run OK, will also run 65 on the freeway. Ideas? Thanks.

Hi, not sure if this is Bosch or Regina, but if Regina, I'd check fuel pressure at the schrader port on the rail. You need 35 at idle, 45 psi with vac line diconnected from FPR. Pressure should also increase as you blip the throttle. Mike

Hesitation going after coming to a stop - can I use 240 wires for diagnosis 700 1991

I'm thinking it might be a spark plug wire, but I don't have another 740, just a few 240's in the family. Can I, for diagnosis, temporarily swap in 240 wires?

If they have the same motor and distributor location...no problem. Is it Rex/Regina or Bosch?

Depending on what hesitation feels like, check your tranny fluid (assuming it is an automatic). Even 1/2 low can cause cavitation that would feel like a hesitation even thought the engine revs just fine.

Did you pull the codes?

When was the last cap/rotor/plugs tune up?
