How to remove anti theft ignition switch cover on a 93 240? 200 1993

Hi all:

So I was going to replace the ignition switch on my daughters 93 240. However I have removed all the screws from the anti theft cover and it will not move out of the way. In the bentley book it shows a screw that has to be drilled out. Looks very obvious in the Picture but i sure don't one on this car. Any body had this before?

thanks
Paul

    Maybe it's the antitheft cable? ... 200 1993

It isn't clear to me from you description what your problem is, but possibly you may need to know that you should keep in mind that on your '93 there is a thin, steel cable (like a bicycle's handbrake or a 10-speed's shifter) that runs from the floor shift to the ignition key switch. That is why you can't turn the key all the way (to remove) without first putting the car's shift into park.
    Hope this helps.

I never knew they had one? It is such a PIA to remove that would seem to be enough of a deterrent as is! Besides Volvo's are hard enough to get into without a key.

      Dan:

My thoughts exactly. Besides who is really going to steal our car here in rural oregon? It's not a real fast get away ride. I think I am going to test the stater now. At least I can see that thing. I went the switch way first because It Was cheaper than a starter and easier I thought. Only sometimes the car wont turn over just goes click. The battery is good and all connections to the Starter are solid. I did unplug the electrical clip to the solenoid today and clean it up with some sandpaper and used some CRC electrical cleaner on the female end. The starter does have a nice 20 year film of oil on it so maybee it's time. I have to get a volt meter that goes to 12 volts. My only gets to 10. I assume if it test at 12 volts then its ok?

Bang on the solenoid with a broom stick, it may be hanging up.

You need a good battery, 10 volt is not enough.

My 1990 has that anti-theft bar and I also had to replace my ignition switch. I removed the instrument cluster and went through that way. Using an inspection mirror and stubby screwdrivers I got it done here is a link that may help.
