Am I supposed to have a brake booster check valve installed between the vacuum hose and the booster? Never did.
What exactly is its function?

The check valve is located in the plastic fitting which attaches the hose to the booster. Its purpose is to prevent loss of vacuum boost to the brakes in case of engine stalling. There should be enough reserve for several full applications of the brakes.

If you hit your brakes sitting still at idle, and your idle changes, you have a leak. Hose or valve.

The idle goes down kinda in proportion to how hard I step on the brake, but only after I take my foot off the pedal.
I just put the new hose on before this symptom appeared. I'm going to order a new valve. I hope it's not the booster.
