Oxygen sensor code 232 check engine light come right on-FIXED!!- 1990 244 200 1990

Hope this helps some one: 1990 244 check engine light popped on. Turned out it just needed a O2 sensor. Codes 232 & 131.The thing I learned was that after resetting the codes (before i installed new sensor), the Check Engine Light came back on instantly, which kinda suprised me. I thought it took some driving; like 100 miles any other time. CEL came on soon as car started. Changed O2 any light went out-BAM! I am glad, i just finished fixing this beauty up, brakes and all. I was heading to get State Inspection (PA), they won't even look if CEL is on, started getting worried it was going to be a ghost in the machine problem. I had tried 2 different O2 sensor w had saved from previous 240 we had wrecked, I guess both were bad.Wheew!

    Oxygen sensor code 232 check engine light come right on-FIXED!!- 1990 244 200 1990

    Pokey,
Yes I had a similar problem with my 1990 240 sedan, engine check light kept lighting up, mechanic repeatedly assured me that it was a "spurious glitch" in the ECM! and not to worry so of course I went elswhere much much later like 18 months later and had the O2 sensor replaced as well as the CAT, it was burnt out running for so long with an enriched mixture, should have looked at thetailpipe![ old techie tip]also need to recognise that these are serviceable items and have a service life.
Now it runs sweetly and returns 9>10 litres per 100 km. Am I pleased!! Now I have to deal with a questionable Borg Warner trannie!.

    Regards,
    Stephen.
