B20B w/ dual SU Carbs - No Venting Filter 140-160 1971

I'm trying to get my 145 project running. I'm new to this model/engine. There is no venting filter on this car and no hoses connected to the float chamber outlets that as I understand would normally go the venting filter. Do I need the venting filter and to run hoses from the float chamber outlets to it? I don't think the venting filter was ever on this car as there are no mounting brackets/holes, and the voltage regulator is mounted in that location.

You do not need it for the car to run well.
Some feel morally obligated to have it connected as it is part of the emission control system. But not being connected will not alter the way the car runs.

It was most likely on your car at one time but had been removed sometime over the past 42 years.

Thanks for your reply. I'm not sure if the venting filter ever was there. This car had a performance engine at one time and my understanding is the SU carbs were sort of thrown on after the performance carbs were removed so it would run as a daily driver. Either way, there aren't any hoses connected to the outlets. Is that ok? Can they just be left alone then?

IIRC, the canister may have been located near the firewall on the right side inner fender on an injected car.

Regardless, they only are there for vapors when the car is off throttle. They are not a vacuum source so they won't be sucking in dirt if that's what you are concerned with.

The original charcoal canister was a vapor recovery system that was removed, not really a filter.

Great, thanks very much for the info. There are a number of oddities on this car that I'm working through. Let's see if I can get it running now! Thanks again.
