Weber manifold for a 164 140-160

Hi all,

A friend of mine wants to build a hot 164 and feed it with triple webers. He can't find a manifold to take them. Does anybody have any ideas where to source one?

Regards

You really should have put some hen's teeth and rocking horse poop in the picture to give us an idea of scale....

Speaking of scale, they look pretty long. Do you think they'd actually fit in the engine bay of a 164 with carbs, horns, and filters installed?

That's where the super charger air intake scoop mounts on the hood!!!!

I bet you could make a B30 haul arse on some really big, big block V-8 with a triple car set up and a super or turbo charger.

Maybe add a TransWarp drive?

Sorry, but I really love the 164 and I've seen some folks set the B30 up to kick that arse of what some may think are autos for rally and and track that are unbeatable in same and adjacent classes. Unless the power to weight ratio is insane. Datsun 510 or 240z maybe? Blown 1979 VW Sirocco? (Yeah, that is FWD.)

And I really, really love the Volvo 164.

The earl grey tea is done steeping and up. Hunny and milk, today. Roland Garros all weekend!

Happy a happy Friday, everybody, and even better weekend!!!!

cheers,

dud.

I really miss my 164.

So you could probably bolt a v-performance supercharger to a standard 164 B30 SU/Stromberg manifold.

http://v-performance.com/images/sc_assy2.jpg

Looks like the intercooler just bolts straight to the SU manifold, and I believe the carb spacing is the same on the B30 and B20 intakes. The hot ticket here, I suppose (and probably *very* hot) would be to bolt all that to a B30E head with megasquirt or some other fuel injection system.

The standard AQ165/AQ170 downdraft carb setup from a penta version of the B30 wouldn't be ideal because you'd have to have mad-max style holes in the hood and I suspect boat carbs aren't ideally suited for road use, what with changes in altitude and the need to run at part throttle.... Though you could probably just hang 3 pinto carbs on that and call it a day, especially if you're planning on running your hoodless 164 in a 24hrs of lemons race...

The weber B30 setup looks pretty cool, though I'd worry that it would fit in a standard 164 engine compartment, and the manifolds, plus the webers, plus the linkages, plus the billion little bits of brass you'd need to buy to tune it right, all sounds like it adds up to money. Using a standard FI setup would probably get you all the way there for probably less (but different) effort.

If I remember my 164 correctly, it had ... enough power stock.

Uncle JohnH,

Used on craigslist here (http://spokane.craigslist.org/boa/3786083005.html) in Butte, MT.

Buyer beware, of course.

Volvo 6 Cylinder engines B30 and Volvo Penta marine versions AQ 160, 165, 170.

Volvo Penta made these tri-carb intake for B30 for marine use. The seller here seems to have part of a carb kit to fit it. I'm unsure.

Verify, as applicable, water jacket hole align, if they exist, between the cylinder head and Penta intake manifold. You may have some interference between the Penta B30 AQ 170 intake manifold and the B30 exhaust manifold around the bolting bits.

Maybe http://shipwrecksalvage.net/?

http://forums.swedespeed.com/showthread.php?159160-Complete-Volvo-B30-tripple-carbs-manifold

I think variations exist whether triple down- or side-draft carbs. I forget what way Weber goes.

Else, maybe you can find new or a triple car intake from another 164 B30.

Try http://www.craigslist.org/about/sites and see sites under Oceania section.

Try the brickboard classifieds (http://www.brickboard.com/CLASSADS/), the iPd classifieds (http://www.ipdusa.com/classifieds.asp), Turbobricks.com classifieds (need account to view), and the several Volvo 164-specific clubs on the i-net.

Their may also be a triple carb B30 intake that is unified with the exhaust manifold. I saw it once a long time ago.

Ebay?

Maybe Uncle Walrus3 could chime in for ideas? He's is one of the 164 experts around here!

Questions?

Hope that helps!

Duff.

A quick search brings up:

http://www.skandix.de/en/spare-parts/engine/fuel-mixture-formation/air-supply/intake-manifold-weber-45-dcoe-kit/1026446/

a little pricey, but as it kit, it looks pretty complete (don't know about linkages and all)
