This can't be good 200 1990

So, my 1990 sat in the garage at the weekend house for about a month, but of course ran fine when I parked it. When I tried to start it the battery was stone dead (not a big surprise after I discovered that it was seven years old), and apparently out of fuel. With fuel and a new battery still no start, so I did some obvious, simple and possibly overdue replacements: crank position sensor, distrib cap, rotor and plugs, 25 amp fuse on the front left fender wall. Still no dice.

So I went to test the codes. Zip. No codes. I get a dim light from the LED, but no code readout whatsoever regardless of which socket I connect with the lead.

Don't get a spark at plug #1 either, but haven't tested for fuel delivery.

So. Since no codes are generating should I suspect a dead ECM?

This car sits out in the country most of the time and is only driven at low speeds around town, usually pulling an 8-foot trailer, to maintain the property. I've had Bobo since he was new, but maybe time to replace with a base Tacoma?

Revisit the 25A fuse and its wiring. The OBD behavior is the clue.

The fuse can be fine but that old plastic holder can be all corroded underneath.

Go to your nearest big-box autoparts store and pick up a new 25A fuse and holder, solder or crimp it inline and seal with heat shrink. I picked up a watertight fuse holder for 5 bucks.

if you sell it and should they have 240 knowledge they will likely have it running in under an hour.

the no start is probably a simple problem which requires logic and a methodical approach:

    no spark:

    check your cps
    coil
    coil wire
    power stage
    rotor
look for wire damage from mice under the dash

    no fuel:

    check your fuel pump relay
run a jumper for VERY short moments between either prong on fuse 6 jumpering to right side of fuse 4 (fuse 4 MUST be removed).....now have some listen for intank fuel pump running
do as above only jumper left side of fuse prong 4.......listen for main pump running under passenger seat floor ( i sometimes forget which prong does which pump but you get the idea)

    this should get you started
