Help! Speedometer question 200 1989

Just got a new circuit board from ebay. It was sold as a k9800 and the speedo plate says k9800, however, the speedometer is missing one side and the white plastic cover is missing the square hole where the black arm from the missing side of the speedometer protrudes through the white plastic cover. Also, the circuit board doesn't match the one in my 245. Finally, if I put my functioning speedo into the new circuit board it doesn't fit into my old white plastic cover. The reason I bought the circuit board was because mine was fried. The old board has the numbers x16-120.8517. The new one is a X 16-120.8026. Was I ripped off? I think the dude took off the side of the speedo so that it would fit a different circuit board. Please help!
Thanks, Matt

Matt, I don't guess you were being ripped off.

Specifying a speedometer by the K number isn't enough. The K number is for the ratio determined by the tire size.

The "side board" you are missing is for the service reminder light function. This feature puts on the "service" light every 5000 miles so you know when to change your oil. I don't think you really need that. The panel changed in 88 when the light was added, so your new one is probably an 86 or 87. It changed again in 90, when the airbag made it necessary to bring the reset to the front.

I'm sure sellers of these parts may imagine one size fits all, but it can be a stretch. Buyers must be wary of the differences year to year.

(I did see your photos you emailed me off list. On second look, I can see the date of manufacture, 11-85, clearly on the new board.)

      Help! Speedometer question 200 1990

Art, I'm trying to resurrect this car that sat for two years. Did all the prep before I tried to start. It won't. It's got a weird electrical glitch. Any ideas why that when in the key is in position 2 after I crank it the fuel pump relay, ignition coil, and air control valve will activate every few seconds on their own? I checked for chewed wires from mice and couldn't find any major damage. I'm out of ideas other than computers.

      Thanks Art!
I went ahead and installed the new board and new speedo in my car. It cranks but the fuel pump is not workn. Jumped fuse two and four and got a buzz. So I'm gonna check out the fuel relay next. Hope this has nothing to do with the new circuit board. If I can get it running then I can see for sure if all the functions with this speedo and board work.
