How's Magnaflow? 200 1993

greetings all-

Wondering what results any have had with Magnaflow exhausts on 240's. Thinking of going with a stainless system on my '92 240(though I'm looking for something close to stock setup and quiet.) I looked into R-sport in Portland to see what they might be able to put together for me. They use magnaflow components (though might take double muffler to quiet it down) and just wondering what experience others have had. I haven't done any mods and don't have turbo so wondering whether magnaflow is a bit overkill and that it'd take more to bring it back down to more of stock sound. Just looking for durable system and most bang for the buck. Thanks!

As Onkel Udo says, there isn't a lot that the usual minor tuning and mods will do to increase power on the B23/230. We occasionally read testimonials here about such and such a product or modification, but once you factor out the owner enthusiasm (of which we are all guilty at some time or another), the true benefit is questionable.

A louder exhaust has fooled many a driver into believing there's more power - that's why they sell so many. The seat of one's pants is a very poor dynomometer.

Bang for the buck? I replaced the 83's entire cat-back system with gen. Volvo parts in 2002 and it's still doing fine, no leaks and about as quiet as 240's get.

I was finally able to get a stainless steel exhaust system installed last week from the cat back. Looks like my mechanic bought the stainless resonator and muffler, and then bought stainless tubing and bent it to his liking. While this is 1.8 mm, and I assume it's not anywhere near as high a quality of stainless as that offered by Rankor, the price was reasonable, and anything beats the product lifecycle that I was getting with regular Starla and Walker parts. The last cat-back install lasted 3 1/2 years and 65K miles. Enough is enough. This one is supposed to last 7-8 years.

I've got a 2 1/4" straight pipe all the way back to a single Magnaflow muffler in the rear - it growls. It isn't that annoying, but often I think I would prefer a stock setup or a quieter muffler. Lets face it, the B230F is a noisy engine even with the stock exhaust.

NA B230f's breath pretty well with stock intake and exhaust. If you want more power, this is not really the place to start.

That being said, SS exhaust is just plain nice to have. The stock system has a resonator and muffler so "two mufflers" is no different.

In the end, there is not too much a stock B230f can put out even with all the simple tuning/hot rod tricks. You can basically move the power around, but not really produce much more of it.
