The id plate over the pass headlight has a blank space where the rack id# should be.
I can see by the boot attachment that it's not a ZF; any guesses as to which rack I may have?

    Dear jerryc,

Hope you're well. Most likely a CAM/TRW unit. If Volvo VADIS is accurate, ZF racks were not used in the '95 model year.

At the risk of laboring the obvious, on the data plate the rack designator is on the extreme right of the last row, in the right-hand column.

If memory serves, Koyo racks will have a dataplate in plain sight, on the rack body. The data plate should bear Volvo #6819225. There's also a Koyo part number, 23250077. I got these numbers from the data plate on my '93 940, which has a Koyo rack. VADIS shows the same Volvo part number, for a Koyo rack, used on a 1995 model.

    Hope this helps.

    Yours faithfully,

    Spook

Thanks Spook. The space where the number should be, and is on all my other cars, is blank. Nothing. Empty space.
I'll pull down the splash pan and look for id there/on the rack; that hasn't been simple to do lately or I'd have done it.

"I can see by the boot attachment that it's not a ZF;"

I found that's not necessarily true anymore, Jerry. We put a rebuilt rack in a '92 940 and assumed it was a Koyo because the boots were like those on my '93 with a Koyo rack (boots fitted directly to the tie rod, like a CAM or TRW).

Only later did I see the "ZF" ID on the center section plate. The High and Low pressure ports were positioned opposite of the Koyo too. Being a know-it-all, I had insisted on getting a Koyo replacement rack from Jorgen, only to find out the hard way (trying to fit the hoses) that the Jorgan lady was correct. The '92 940 did NOT come with a Koyo.

    Hello
i dont recall the exact specifics but if you use a different brand rack which all will bolt in the hoses will not all interchange and will have to be swapped.
i found a like new rack in the JY and then had to go back to get the hoses as the two racks were different. just dont recall the 2 different brands.
i believe two use the same hoses and the third brand uses different hoses.
its not uncommon to find a good rack at the jy they are very clean compared to the rest of the parts under there.
    good luck
    Mike

Thanks. One of the rack swap faqs is something I wrote actually, so this is not foreign territory, but this rack I don't know the make of.
