Uncle wharfrat,
What Uncle dewfpo recommends here 100%.
I'll say, somewheres in between, is the Haynes Manual for the 960/90 series (S90 sedan, V90 estate, kombi, wagon).
Amazon and eBay may have these manuals on DVDs. Just watch it that someone does not cheat you.
You'll want the very final publication year.
The Axle's Pawn Shop in Sprague in Spokane (where I am nearby, again, not far from you), as well as other Spookylou pawn shops, may have the Haynes 960/90 series manual at least. Just watch it with Haynes as fluid recommendations can be wrong and sometimes assembly matters can be off. Always check your Volvo 960 owner manual for correct fluids and capacities.
The Volvo Factory Green OEM shop manuals are best, and the instructional steps and diagrams somewhat stark. It helps to be have some electromechanical practice with auto repair.
You are probably aware of the critical nature in caring for the timing components of the B3204 white block Porsche-Volvo engine in your 1996 Volvo 960.
There exist many issues with the earlier 1960s. I suggest your troll through the Volvo brickboard, and perhaps, turbobricks, to gather context from other's experience with these earlier 960s to foment your maintenance strategy.
The 960 is sumptuous luxury with a performance, yet efficient, engine. You may have many wear items to inspect and, as needed, remedy.
If you have questions and comments, please post back.
Hope that helps.
Kitty. Grey. Fuzzy. Volvo. 240.
