replacement rear deck 200 1993

Greetings all-
I'm looking for a replacement rear deck (the tray area up behind the rear seat that houses speakers.) Anyone know if that's an item th at might turn up on ebay? Will a deck from a '90-'92 fit my '93 240? Thinking I'll need to schedule a junkyard trip since I haven't seen any for sale.

Unless you are replacing it because of some unwanted speaker holes, just remove it and recarpet the piece. That is what I did to mine in my 90 240 using tan carpet and 3M spray glue. Carefully remove the old carpet and go at it.

Mine had faded some and so I did a recarpet job at same time I was replacing rear deck speakers. Trouble is that the thin carpet I glued on top isn't quite as close a match as I thought and now it just kinda bugs me that it doesn't match rest of car that well. I looked around for closer carpet match but had no luck. Now I kick myself that I didn't just try a dye job on the faded existing carpet as I think I would have had better luck. I can live with the carpet I put on for awhile but eventually would like to get a closer match. Maybe I'm just being too picky!

I recommend black. I have the tan/beige interior, and it looks great. Only caveat being that you should paint the seat belt mech. covers to match. Krylon Fusion satin black works wonders.

I used cheap black automotive carpet from Walmart, and I love it. I would NOT use spray adhesive in the rear window if you want it to be permanent. Most spray adhesives are similar to rubber cement and will peel with a lot of heat. Elmer's Glue-all however will stick very well to carpet or fabric and the pressboard panel.

The above, in my own experience, as always.

oops...I already spray glued it so too late for me for that! You think there'd be any chance I could take carpet off and removed the spray on gunk? I didn't know if there'd be any way to remove that stuff once sprayed on there.

I think I'd leave it and see if it peels itself off. Black carpet in that back window will get HOT, no matter where you live, and I had problems with even the professional spray adhesives letting go. Your mileage may vary.

If you have the dark grey interior and used black carpet, I bet it doesn't look as bad as you think, however, if you are adamant about perfection (I know the feeling) you could try using a hair dryer (not a heat gun) to warm the carpet and see if it will peel off. If not - do you set things in your rear window? I NEVER put things back there, so if it were me, I would find my local SEM paint dealer and look for a fabric/carpet paint in the right shade. It will last a long time if you don't lay things up there.

Thanks for the tip. I think you're right in that the carpet I glued on does look ok by itself. It's just my perfectionist self looking at it after awhile and realizing that it could be better match. I don't ever put anything back there on top of it and I honestly never thought about the possibility that heat could affect the adhesive. I'll probably just leave as is and look around once in awhile for another deck with existing carpet I might try to dye match or something. Thanks for the input!

I used the 3M spray adhesive and my tan carpet has stayed put. This was 5years ago. I would not worry. On my silver 87 with a black package tray I used a spray dye from Auto zone. It went from a bluish color to deep black. The only thing I did not like about the OE carpet was it felt a bit thin. The car is long gone but if I had to do it again I would use the trunk carpet material.

What color is the rear deck? If black maybe get a trunk carpet and glue that on top of what you already have.

I have the black/dark grey interior. Found a decent match of thin carpet from my local interior auto shop and spray glued it on and I guess it looks ok. I keep kicking myself though that I didn't try dye match first as carpet on the original deck wasn't bad just had turned a little bluish fade color from UV exposure.

They are commonly damaged, need recovered with new carpet even when the backing piece is solid, and you seldom see them for sale online (because they're so common or so rare in good shape, I don't know which).

I know for a fact that the rear deck/rear dash/hat shelf/package tray/whatever you call it, did not change (except for a few additional holes) from '82 to '93, and I suspect the panel is largely the same throughout the entire run of the 240.
