Do you know the amp rating equivalent of the brass .22-long shells (empty, natch) that I have stuffed in there?

All honesty, yeah. Lucas fuses in most British stuff (and early 1800) that I've had.. that paper label in there is often burned to a crisp, but current still flows..

...using a .22L shell brings new meaning to the term Slow-Blow...

It fuses the parking lights and tail lights only -- four filaments total.

Ron,

You're quite right that fuse 3 is rated excessively, but let me add that Lucas uses a different standard. 35 Lucas amps is equivalent roughly to 16 everyone else amps.

Phil;

Very interesting!...I did hear something to that effect before, but didn't get details...I guess they work to a different Ohms law too...unbelievable...can you elaborate or point me to someplace where this difference in American Amps vs, Lucas Amps is explained? Tnx!

Cheers!

The British system is to rate fuses by what amperage it takes to blow them instantly (how many msec is that?!), while everyone else rates fuses by how much amperage they can flow indefinitely.

Phil;

Thanks for that link which offers some explanation...essentially, as stated there, this British 35A fuse would still be equivalent to our 20 or 25Amp type because of this rating difference...but that is still more than double what I would recommend installing.

Cheers

Interesting. British bikes ( Norton, Triumph) suffer from the same problem. A 35A fuse never blows until something is absolutely shorted.
