FRONT SUSPENSION 200 1993

Good day all, replaced strut inserts, tie rod ends and ball joints on my 93 240. I inserted spacers with the new inserts. Were they required? It seems the front end is still clucking or bottoming out. Had alignment performed this morning. Any thoughts/suggestions are always appreciated.

93 240 classic #915, 169k miles

I have a similar ka-kah noise as the car moves over bumps after rebuilding the front end also. Can't puzzle it out. I'm very interested in this thread.

I got some M16 washers from the hardware store, installed one on both sides, no more clunck.

You put the washers under the big top nut on the strut? Thanks! jeff

Is there a rubber cushion at the top where the spring goes?

How many miles on the car?

How are the lower arm bushings?

Phil

There is a boot that goes over the strut insert, if that is what you are referring to. The vehicle has 169k miles, and all control arm bushings, and strut mounts ball joints and tie rods ends are new.

Sometimes a washer or two under the top nut will stop noise.

1. Gland nuts not fully seated

2. Ball joints not completely torqued, leaving a bit of 12 to 6 o'clock play with wheel off the ground.

Depends on the strut inserts. Brand and type would help.

Many folks have failed to completely seat the gland nuts.

Is there any way to correct this issue without removing the strut?

To tighten the Gland nut on the car.

jack it up so the front wheel hangs and uncompresses the spring.

pull up that boot to expose the gland nut.

With a large pipe wrench (plumbers wrench) tighten down on the gland nut.

I was just thinking the same about the gland nuts. I also installed new Meyle strut mounts and inserts.
